Backpacks and purses are very personal items and finding one that is perfect for all my needs is a constant struggle.
Do you feel the same way when it comes to shopping for a backpack?
I’m a huge fan of STM Goods and commend them for all the thought and care that they put into their products. I’ve been using their Impulse backpack for a while now, and since STM Goods is always coming up with new designs, they very generously sent me their new STM Prime Backpack for 13″ Laptop & Tablet to try out.

STM Prime Backpack Size Matters
– 15-liter capacity
– Fits most laptops with a 12-14 inch screen
– 9.3 x 13.2 x 1.2 inches
Advertised as an “everyday digital pack with maximum volume and organisation in a small, and lightweight silhouette”. For daily use and short domestic flights or road trips, this bag is a great size. I used it on a trip to Florida and found it to be perfect.
I had hoped that I could use this pack when flying internationally, but the Prime Backpack is just a bit too small for my needs – just a tad. That’s not to say that it isn’t an ideal bag for a flight, it’s just that when I fly internationally, I carry a lot in my pack! I carry camera gear, laptop, mp3 player, earphones, reading material, writing pads, chargers and cables, water bottle, snacks, toiletries, medication, change of clothes. Yeah, a bit overkill but for a long flight, I’m sticking with my STM Impulse bag that is larger.
Weight = 1.54 lbs
Main material = 300D water resistant dobby woven fabric
Lining material = 200D polyester
The bag is sturdy and made of quality water resistant fabric. On first appearance the backpack when empty is not what I would consider being lightweight. Add in the weight of my 4-year old laptop, and the large brick power plug plus my other belongings and the pack is a bit heavy.
Here’s the surprise! Due to the intelligent design of the backpack once it’s on your back the bag doesn’t feel as heavy due to the balance of the weight being on your lower back versus on your shoulders. It’s like magic!
There is also an air channel system in the padded back panel so that your back doesn’t get hot and sweaty.
Colour = Black, Frost Grey, Moroccan Blue, Steel
Love the Steel colour — it’s a medium grey that isn’t too light and isn’t too dark — it’s just right with mustard yellow accents.
Prime Backpack Pockets
My favourite things about this backpack are all the compartments. STM Goods excels here when it comes to their designs by using soft fleece lined fabric for any pockets intended for your phone, tablet or glasses so that they don’t get scratched or damaged.
There are internal pockets for cables, chargers, pens and business cards. External stretchy pockets on the side for a bottle or umbrella and a large open overflow pocket for quick access items.
Inside all STM Backpacks is a “SlingTech System” so there is no need to worry about dropping your backpack on the floor and damaging the edges of your laptop.
The tag explains, “STM’s dual protection system is designed to transport your laptop safely and/or tablet. A padded sling suspends your devices from the floor of the bag, and the bottom corners are wrapped in additional padding for the ultimate in digital gear protection.”
The STM Prime backpack is my new go-to bag for when I have meetings and need to bring my laptop or if I’m working outside the house at a coffee shop. Its sleek design is perfect for urban and business travel.
