Let’s face it. Planning a multi-generational family vacation is tough. Picking a budget-friendly city that makes the 7-year-old, the 17-year-old, and the 70-year-old happy is easier said than done. Why not head south and check out Orlando, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; or Austin, Texas? Here’s why you should explore these family vacation destinations.

Family Vacation Destination: Orlando, Florida

Orlando, Florida, is one of the most family-friendly vacation destinations in the world, with theme parks galore. This is where you’ll find Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, SeaWorld, and Legoland. If that weren’t enough, there are also lots of distractions that are ideal for multi-generational groups, such as outlet malls, hot air balloon rides, airboat rides, dining destinations, and entertainment options.

When it comes to where to stay in Orlando, you can easily choose one of the theme park resorts. However, there are lots of hotels outside of the theme parks to suit any budget.

Family Vacation Destination: Austin, Texas

When it comes to family-friendly activities in Austin, Texas, l look to the outdoors and all the fun that you can have there. The legendary Colorado River runs through the middle of downtown Austin. The parkland and trails on either side of the river make it the perfect destination for a bike ride, stroll, or kayak adventure. I would recommend staying in hotels near downtown Austin for the views of the river, the surrounding green space, and the convenience.

My favourite activity at dusk in Austin is seeing the bats leave their nests under the Congress Avenue Bridge. This is a free event that draws massive crowds to view more than 1 million bats as they go on their evening hunt for food. It’s such a fascinating and educational sight that everyone in the family will want to witness it more that once.

Family Vacation Destination: Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville, Tennessee, also known as Music City, USA, is home to multiple music venues like the Ryman Auditorium, the Grand Ole Opry, and the Country Music Hall of Fame. All three of these music meccas offer tours and glimpses into the history of the country music industry. They make Nashville the perfect vacation destination for music lovers, whether you’re a fan of Johnny Cash or Taylor Swift.

If you’re staying at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center, which has 9 acres of indoor garden space, three heated pools, water fountain shows, and a Delta Riverboat that travels down an indoor river, then you know that the resort is an attraction in itself. Otherwise, staying at hotels in downtown Nashville is ideal for families since this area is close to the main attractions.

Head south and check out Orlando, Florida; Nashville, Tennessee; or Austin, Texas. They make perfect multi-generational family vacation destinations.

These are just a few reasons why Orlando, Nashville, and Austin make great family vacation destinations in the South. There are plenty more attractions and things to do to keep everyone happy no matter their age, along with many hotels to choose from within any budget.
